Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek Censuses Collection
|Biographical / Historical Note|
The Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS), today on the CBS website translated as Statistics Netherlands, was predecessed by the Centrale Commissie voor de Statistiek from 1892 until 1899; the CBS was founded 1899; it was from early years based in The Hague and surroundings; from 1978 there was also a CBS office in Heerlen in the south of the Netherlands; the main task of the CBS was to collect statistical data on the Dutch society and especially the various elements of the Dutch economy; but the CBS collected also data on other countries often by the way of exchanging each others publications with statistical offices abroad; from 1999 started an enduring reorganisation process of the CBS; one of its consequences was to diminish the amount of books and other publications in the library of the CBS.
These book materials were collected by the library of the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) during a long period of years. The CBS decided to shedd materials and the IISH was invited in 2014 to make a selection of it to save these for historical research.
The collection is arranged according to the signatures assigned by the CBS library.
This collection is a very broad one; it counts a lot of public, professional, business, agricultural and housing censuses from more than 130, mostly non-European, countries 1720-2002.
List in Excel was made on the base of information received from the CBS. See Access and Use for more information.
