Wertheim 1954-1961; research-assistant at Yale University 1961-1962; research-assistant at the Vrije Universiteit of Brussels, Belgium 1963-1966; research fellow Sinological Institute, University of Leiden 1966-1987; did a lot of archival research on the social-economic situation of Chinese Indonesians.

The papers were donated to the IISH by Marijke The-Wertheim in 2002; with accruals from Marijke The-Wertheim in 2004 and 2014, and from the arrears of the IISH in 2017.
