Spanish Resistance Collection
The Collection was formed over the years from different sources, especially from Spanish organizations in exile. Originally documents were just kept in portfolios as they received without any further arrangement. In this arrangement items with a wide range of topics and document types have been grouped in seven series, including Civil War, Trade Unions, Political Parties, Students’ Resistance and Role of the Church.
A small collection on the Netherlands and the Spanish Civil War is also added in the list.
The collection contains pamphlets, reports, correspondence, official documents, flyers, manifestos, articles, clippings and other printed items relating to the Spanish Civil War, the resistance movements and economical and political developments during the Franco regime. Subjects include the Republicans and Nationalists, political and trade union movements such as the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT), Partido Comunista (PCE) and Partit Socialista Unificat de Catalunya, (PSUC), students’ movements at the universities including the Sindicato Democrático de Estudiantes, the role of the church and the resistance of priests. The Catalan nationalism and developments in Catalonia are also good documented.
